14-home development in Hartlepool for people with dementia gets green light

14-home development in Hartlepool for people with dementia gets green light.

A 14-home building in Hartlepool for persons with dementia has received planning permission.

The former Gretton Court Care Home in Heather Grove will be partially destroyed and turned into homes for independent living and dementia care.

Applicants, The Hospital of God, intend to build 14 two-bedroom homes for social, cheap, or intermediate rent on the site of a former care home.

As part of the proposals, parking will be increased from 24 to 25. Stirling Dementia Guidance and conversations with users from the Hospital of God’s early-onset dementia group helped shape the residences’ designs.

The building was converted rather than completely rebuilt for reasons of sustainability, minimal interruption to the day centre, and cost-effectiveness.

Hartlepool Borough Council has given planning permission for the development, with conditions that include a three-year start date.

The residences will be used only by persons with dementia. The planning permission was given on October 30.
