328 bus reverting to old route after ‘chaos’ in South Oxhey.
A service will return to its previous route after changes caused “confusion” and missed buses.
The 328 bus from Watford to Northwood travels in two directions around Oxhey Drive, Muirfield Road, Chilwell Gardens, and Northwick Road in South Oxhey, despite the fact that all of the bus stop signs and shelters are on the same side.
Prior to this year, services would slightly double back to travel around these roads in the same direction, regardless of which way buses travelled on the overall route.
South Oxhey councillor Steve Cox admitted that the old method appeared counterintuitive, but claims it made more sense, and the new system has left users unsure where they stand.
“Changing it made no sense, caused chaos and confusion for everyone, and was clearly unsafe,” the Labour councillor stated, adding that the decision was “obviously made by someone looking at a map” rather than experience with the route. A Hertfordshire County Council spokesperson stated:
“We have listened to local councillors’ feedback and have requested that the bus company return to operating one-way around the Muirfield Road/Oxhey Drive loop.
