A former Leeds United striker with 60 goals trains with the Championship’s top contenders for promotion.

Patrick Bamford, a former striker for Leeds United, has been training with Coventry City as he looks for a new team. The 32-year-old and Leeds mutually agreed to end Bamford’s contract a year before it expired, ending his seven-year stint in West Yorkshire during the summer. Daniel Farke told the striker that he was not included in the plans for the next season because Elland Road officials preferred to have other players take his place.
Bamford will mark two months since departing Elland Road next week, and despite intense rumours of a transfer to Getafe in Spain, the two-time Championship champion has not yet found a permanent home. However, he has been seen working out with one of Leeds’ former rivals in the second division. According to several sources on Friday, the former Leeds player has been working with Coventry City, who are naturally managed by Frank Lampard, a former Chelsea midfielder. While Lampard continued to play at Stamford Bridge, albeit at a far more senior level, Bamford progressed through the Chelsea academy as a young player.
However, local publication CoventryLive reported that Lampard is helping Bamford by letting the striker stay fit and sharp while searching for a new home, dispelling rumours of a potential move to the CBS Arena. In the past, the Sky Blues manager had permitted free agents to practice with his team. With seven victories and four draws from an undefeated 11-game start, Coventry is currently leading the Championship and the early-season favourite for promotion. The Sky Blues have also scored a lot of goals—31—and Lampard’s team includes three of the top four goal scorers in the division.
Although Bamford’s future is still uncertain, he witnessed a teammate sign a deal just over two years ago after joining Leeds for preseason training. After being released by Norwich City, Sam Byram played under Farke at Thorp Arch before returning there as a free agent in 2023.
