Mexborough fire: Family loses everything in New Year’s Eve arson attack.
A fundraising campaign has been established to assist a South Yorkshire family facing homelessness following a horrific fire on New Year’s Eve.
Yesterday afternoon, a fire broke out on Mexborough High Street, and at its peak, eight fire engines, as well as police and council officials, were on the scene. The street was closed for many hours while crews worked to put out the fire and conduct investigations.
South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue stated crews departed the scene at 10 p.m.
According to the organisation, the fire was deliberately caused.The fire involved four shops, one of which is derelict and houses flats above. Today it was revealed that a family “lost everything” in the fire.
Boyd Taylor established an online GoFundMe appeal, which states: “On New Year’s Eve, my friend Chris Nixon and his three children lost everything when an arsonist set fire to a building connected to their flat on Mexborough High Street.
“They’ve lost their home, clothes, and even their Christmas presents.”Chris, a devoted single father and hard worker, is suddenly facing homelessness.”Please, if possible, give to assist them rebuild.Every little bit helps. “Thank you.”
