‘Medical Booked’: Crystal Palace exit expected in ’24 hours’ after QPR transfer decision.
QPR and Crystal Palace are embroiled in a League One transfer saga.
Crystal Palace goalkeeper Owen Goodman is expected to join Barnsley on loan after QPR shot-stopper Murphy Cooper’s loan was canceled.
Goodman had been on loan at Huddersfield Town this season, but his brief spell was terminated earlier this month. The 22-year-old had appeared 10 times in League One for the Terriers but had not played since the end of November.
Goodman, an Eagles youth product, has previously been loaned to Colchester United and AFC Wimbledon. He has never made a senior debut for Crystal Palace, although did appear on the bench four times during the 2022/23 season.
Crystal Palace goalkeeper undergoes medical at Barnsley
On Wednesday, transfer specialist Pete O’Rourke posted on social networking platform X that Crystal Palace goalkeeper Owen Goodman is completing a medical at Barnsley and is expected to complete his loan move to Oakwell within 24 hours.
Barnsley had activated a clause that would allow Cooper, who was a regular at league level this season, to return to Loftus Road. That occurred after the team had planned a move for Goodman.
Conor Hourihane, Tykes’ head coach, has spoken about the club’s transfer dealings between the sticks. He told our sister site, the Yorkshire Post: “Obviously, Owen is someone we’ve been highly linked with, and I’m not going to deny it. We’re hoping that it will get done.
“Obviously, Owen was let go from us during a fantastic period at Wimbledon last year. He has a different profile than Murphy. He has a large physical presence and is commanding in stature. Overall, I believe that the backline certainly needed something to freshen up that sector as well. Hopefully, we can get that across the line, and that will be a tremendous plus for everyone.”
QPR goalkeeper returns to Loftus Road
When asked about canceling the Cooper loan, he said, “I think it was a full package really.”It was a question of, “What can we do with the squad to try to control what we want to do?” Obviously, loan players come into play, and all of them have very much returned, including Murphy. So we’ve had to ‘wheel and deal’ and do things under our own control.
“I believe the decisions we made to send people back were correct. I believe Murph was the most tough since he was a popular member of the group, but we thought that it was the correct thing to do and would help the squad go forward in a different direction.
