Lawrence Shankland in honest injury update as Hearts striker admits what isn’t guaranteed upon return.
The injured Hearts captain was watching his team secure their latest Premiership victory.Lawrence Shankland admits he still has a long way to go on his injury comeback as Hearts cruised to a 3-0 Premiership victory over Dundee United.
The injured striker was in the Sky Sports studio on Saturday night as he continued his rehabilitation from a hamstring strain that was confirmed to keep him out for six to eight weeks after Falkirk eliminated him from the Scottish Cup last month.
Pierre Landry Kabore’s double and an Alexandros Kyziridis penalty secured a comfortable victory at Tannadice, where the hosts saw Amar Fatah and Panutche Camara sent off, as well as first team coach Dave Bowman.
Despite injuries to Shankland and Cammy Devlin, as well as a suspension for midfielder Beni Baningime, Hearts increased their lead to seven points ahead of Rangers’ game against Hibs.
Shankland delivered an injury report on his hamstring and admitted that he is not close to a return, but rehab work is underway to get him there.

He stated of his injury return status: “Not too near, regrettably. It was unfortunate that I sustained an injury at the time.
However, rehabilitation has begun; perhaps, things will go well and I will be able to return as soon as possible. I can’t wait to be back. On nights like today, the spectators gather as the boys prepare for the game.
That’s when you realise you’re not a part of it right now. It’s a terrific time for us. The team is doing very well.”
On the game itself, the forward argued that just because others like Kabore are in good form doesn’t mean he will be an automatic starter when he returns later this season.
He stated, “If boys are getting opportunities and scoring goals, I’m not sitting here thinking I’m going to be back in that team. If boys are playing well and performing consistently, Landry will have to be patient and wait for his opportunity.
“Obviously, the chance arose as a result of my injury, and he is taking use of it. That is what you need as a squad to be successful. You need everyone to keep ready.
Even the youngsters who do not make it to the squads train well. We have players like Alan Forrest who will not make the squad on Saturday night. Top players who could play for any team.

“Every week they show up, the commitment is there, the competition in training, and they bring that level to maintain themselves right, so when the opportunity arises, they’re ready to go to games and play as well as someone they’ve replaced.
Obviously, results are beneficial. We found a rhythm and a means to win games.
“We’ve won games in a variety of ways, which clearly helps, but the manager gives everyone confidence. He needs to manage a large group.
He’s giving people opportunities, which can be difficult to balance when you look at our training squad.
It’s difficult to manage it.”There are difficulties, but I believe he has a group of players who are all willing to work hard, keep doing what they’re doing, and wait for their opportunities.”
I think the mentality of all the players in the team deserves to be complimented, and it’s definitely giving the manager issues when deciding which group to take on each game.
There is 100% belief in our ability to win games. “I believe we’ve demonstrated throughout the season that we can win all types of games. Every test we’ve had, when someone needs to come in and perform or go win a game, we’ve been able to answer all of the questions.
As a captain and a teammate, you should be proud of that fact, as well as proud of your team’s ability to handle that pressure. So we have a few more key games coming up shortly, and we just need to keep doing what we’re doing.
