Hibs hero calls on former Easter Road and Hearts figure after boss return as he brings him into coaching team
Hibs hero calls on former Easter Road and Hearts figure after boss return as he brings him into coaching team.
Throughout his career, the seasoned player has played for both Hearts and Hibs. A former Hearts and Hibs player has joined an Easter Road hero’s coaching team at another Premiership club.
Marvin Bartley has been appointed manager of Livingston after David Martindale moved into a sports director job, and he is entrusted with keeping the Lions in the league, having won just once all season.
Grant Murray, a Hibs hero who was a member of the team that won the Scottish Cup in 2016, has joined his coaching staff.
Murray played for Hearts for six years and was on the bench for their 1998 Scottish Cup victory over Rangers before joining Kilmarnock under former Jambos manager Jim Jefferies.
He has coached at a number of Scottish clubs, notably as an assistant to Bartley during the former midfielder’s time at Queen of the South, although they were first introduced at Hibs, where Murray joined in 2015 and left in 2021. He has also managed Raith Rovers on his own.
Why has Grant Murray joined Livingston
Bartley stated, “When I first came up to Scotland to play for Hibs, Grant was a coach there and gradually became more involved when Neil Lennon took over as manager, and then I had him as my assistant at Queen of the South, so I know him very well.”
He is someone I trust, and he brings valuable experience to my coaching team.
“He’s had a great football career as both a player and a coach, winning trophies while managing Raith Rovers.
His high standards, strong work ethic, and professionalism are non-negotiable for me, and he will help instill those qualities in the group.
“Grant is fantastic on the training park and provides valuable expertise to me, Neil, and Andrew Shinnie in his dual position.
I believe we all complement one another well and reinforce one other’s deficiencies, which can only be good for the players on the pitch.Grant’s hiring means we now have a well-rounded coaching staff, and I’m convinced his presence will help us improve.”
Who is Grant Murray?
Livi’s announcement reads: “We’re pleased to announce that men’s first-team manager Marvin Bartley has added former Raith Rovers manager Grant Murray to his coaching staff for the rest of the season. After a great playing career with Hearts, St.
Johnstone, Partick Thistle, Kilmarnock, and Raith Rovers, Murray went on to manage at Starks Park, first as a player-manager, and won the Challenge Cup with a victory over Rangers in the final at Easter Road.
Livi played Celtic on Wednesday night. Bartley stated, “Gutted. I’m disappointed for the guys, but I’m also proud of them.
To a man, the effort was fantastic, and I feel bad for them because we were so close to securing a critical point. Celtic’s reserve players are of exceptional quality, but we matched their effort. We just couldn’t hang on in the end.
