Frank Lampard’s team currently leads the Championship, putting them in a great position to return to the Premier League. However, Middlesbrough and Ipswich Town pose a threat to their success.

The Sky Blues used the January transfer window to recruit wingers Yang Min-Hyeok and Romain Esse on loan from Tottenham and Crystal Palace, respectively.

Esse played 67 minutes as Coventry overcame Leicester City 2-1 on Saturday, with goals from Ellis Simms and Haji Wright.

Coventry City recruitment strategy questioned amid interest in Cardiff City stars Ronan Kpakio and Dylan Lawlor

Lampard has added Yang and Esse to his roster, and Coventry has scouted Cardiff’s Kpakio and Lawlor.

Under head coach Brian Barry-Murphy, Cardiff’s attack-minded right-back Kpakio and cultured ball-playing central defender Lawlor have both been instrumental in the club’s rise to the League One title, seizing newly created opportunities and earning rave reviews in South Wales and beyond.

Chris Deez, a Sky Blues fan pundit, was asked by Football League World if he would recommend signing Cardiff’s top players despite competition in the transfer market. He also questioned whether Kpakio and Lawlor are ready for a second-tier title challenge right now.

Deez stated, “I believe this might be some really smart, very shrewd business from us here, particularly Lawlor. He has been a key player for Cardiff this season, helping them reach the top of League One and potentially return to the Championship.

“They’re a big squad that deserves to be up there. We’ve loaned out the majority of our academy players, so I’m not sure what our plan is for their growth. He was our Under-21 team captain. We dropped him down to the National League despite the fact that he had appeared on the bench for us a few times and looked quite excellent in pre-season against Real Betis.

“We just sold Justin Obikwu, and we still have Raphael (Borges Rodrigues) out on loan. We have a few additional young players on loan at clubs like as Forest Green.

“I keep hearing how excellent Lampard is with the youth, but none of the youth are even present at the club for him to be good with. I’m not sure where that narrative came from. “Back to the Cardiff lads, yes, I think they’d be pretty good signings.” I believe Lawlor is good enough to be on the bench. For the past few months, our defence has been really fragile. Perhaps he would be a good candidate for a spot in the starting eleven, pushing out players like (Liam) Kitching.

“I believe it’s safe to state that Bobby Thomas remains our greatest defender and centre-back. However, when coupled with Kitching, they have recently been unstable, with (Luke) Woolfenden much more so. (Joel) Latibeaudiere has come in and done an excellent job, as he always does, but we need a more constant, reliable centre-back duo.

“Maybe it’s too soon to sign Lawlor and throw him right into a Premier League promotion push. With less than two weeks to the conclusion of the window, our main attention is on two young Cardiff players, while other clubs like Ipswich, Middlesbrough, and Watford are signing Premier League stars.

“Watford has signed Eduardo Bove, whose contract was terminated at Roma. These are the types of signings we need to make, rather than seeking for players in the lower leagues to supplement our academy, which is now leaking talent. This is an odd strategy. I honestly don’t know what Doug King is thinking half the time.

“I’m not sure how ambitious he truly is. This is the biggest chance we’ve had to return to the Premier League since our absence, and I just believe his priorities are misplaced.”

Dylan Lawlor and Ronan Kpakio may not be what Frank Lampard needs right now, despite Premier League ambitions.

Kpakio’s League One performances have piqued the curiosity of European clubs like Manchester United, AC Milan, and Coventry. Lawlor has also been scouted by the Sky Blues, according to Wales Online.

The pair have been monitored by major teams for some time and are two of the most promising talents outside of the Premier League, where their futures clearly lie, though it’s understandable that Coventry fans would prefer a clearer path for the club’s own emerging potential.

As Deez mentioned, Lawlor could have what it takes to compete with the likes of Kitching for a spot in Lampard’s starting 11 as his side pushes for promotion to the Premier League.

The 20-year-old made only one Championship game for the Bluebirds last season, with the remainder of his senior appearances coming in League One.

As a result, Coventry may want to look elsewhere as they strengthen their squad in preparation for the final stages of their promotion campaign.
