Doctor accused of harassment can work again

Doctor accused of harassment can work again.

A doctor who was suspended for sending hundreds of personal texts to a married colleague has been advised she can return to her job.

Rebecca Alia Lobo received a six-month suspension from the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service last August after being accused of harassing a consultant.

Lobo, an Ipswich-based medic who worked at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust, is believed to have sent him hundreds of text messages.

Before suspending her, a panel decided that her conduct constituted harassment; however, after a review, a tribunal hearing ruled that she was once again fit to practise.

“Dr Rebecca Alia Lobo’s fitness to practise is not impaired, therefore there’s currently no restrictions on her registration,” the spokeswoman stated.

The court had earlier heard that Lobo had sent him over 275 WhatsApp messages regarding her personal life and attempted to offer him a leather purse and her childhood doll.

She also accessed his medical data as well as those of his wife, a doctor who she would frequently stare at, according to the article.

Lobo, who no longer works for the trust, also emailed him images, set up shift swaps so they could work together, offered to work shifts for free, and followed him around the department, according to the tribunal.

She would also apparently visit wards where he worked, even when she was not required to, and regularly demanded work meetings with him. Lobo admitted to all of the allegations made against her.

A tribunal hearing on Friday found that “Dr Lobo’s fitness to practise is no longer impaired” after she served her suspension.
