Roads closed after building fire in city centre.

The fire is close within the Coventry ring road, affecting Tower Street and Bishop Street, according to Transport for West Midlands.

Earlier, the wind was pushing smoke toward the ring road. A cordon is in place around a single-story structure, and a line of fire trucks runs down Tower Street.

Smoke could be seen streaming out the windows of the structure. Firefighters were permitted to enter the premises to inspect the property and informed the BBC that a safety check was being conducted.

Around 200 to 300 soft furniture were taken out of the premises and placed on the pavement.

It comprised stacks of bedding, some of which had been fire-damaged.

A building fire in the heart of Coventry has forced the closure of some major highways. at 30 firefighters were dispatched to the flames that broke out on Tower Street at midnight.

“Tower Street is currently closed, and we advise that if you live or work nearby, please close your doors and windows,” stated West Midlands Fire Service.

Crews were making progress and were anticipated to remain on the scene all day, according to the fire department. People are advised to avoid the area whenever possible.
