LOOKING BACK
Market day in Blackburn brought the crowds into town.
We just included a set of images in Looking Back that show the old Blackburn Market in the 1960s, just before a large portion of the town center was reconstructed.
We then discovered this image, which depicts a normal market day from an odd angle.
We believe it may be from the 1950s and depicts the three-day market’s stalls engaged in a thriving trade.

The ancient market hall is on the right, and the market clock tower, in the center of the photo, is one of Blackburn’s most overlooked architectural monuments.
King William Street runs behind the stall to the left.
It’s strange how times change; take a close look and there’s no man in sight on the photo.
The market hall and clock tower were removed in 1964, and The Mall now occupies a large portion of the site.
