EXCLUSIVE: SFA funding for Dundee FC’s Riverside training ground withdrawn.
The trust had obtained funding from the Scottish FA’s Grassroots Pitch and Facilities Fund. Dundee FC’s proposed training centre on Riverside Drive no longer has SFA funding due to project delays.
Last year, the Dundee FC Community Trust submitted an application to the local council for a new complex on the Tay River’s banks.
At the time, club officials stated that the trust had secured funding from the Scottish FA’s Grassroots Pitch and Facilities Fund.
This was to be matched by Dundee FC owners, the Keyes family, who have long supported the club’s charitable arm.
Councillors granted the project planning permission in November.
Legal challenge successful
However, in February, a group of local residents known as Save Riverside Park filed a legal challenge to the decision. It claimed that DCC’s decision to approve the project violated environmental regulations, the local development plan, access rights, and flood safety measures.
According to the Courier, the local authority decided not to oppose the action after consulting with lawyers. The Court of Session ultimately decided to reduce the planning permission. The Dundee FC Community Trust (DFCCT) is expected to resubmit its application to the council.
A club spokesperson stated, “Dundee FC Community Trust and Dundee Football Club are aware of the current situation regarding the application and funding for the football training centre and community hub at the Riverside Pitches.” “Both the trust and the football club are working together to explore the best course of action going forward for the football training centre and community hub which will serve the people of Dundee in many different ways.”
