The PFA is currently training a number of free agents, including Dylan McGeouch.

As he continues to look for a new club ahead of the upcoming season, former Sunderland midfielder Dylan McGeouch is one of numerous free agents keeping themselves in shape as part of a PFA project.

The association is hosting a preseason training camp for athletes once more with the goal of keeping them fit in a controlled setting. All unattached PFA members who were signed on a professional contract during the 2024–2025 season are eligible to participate in the 10-week program, which is sponsored by the player trade union and gives unsigned professionals a chance to mimic the preparations being made by their peers who currently have clubs.

Players are also given visibility and the opportunity to appear in the shop window. According to the PFA, more than 100 of the 120 prospects who took part in the camp last year were contacted directly by teams and went on to sign new contracts.

What is Dylan McGeouch, a former Sunderland midfielder, saying about the PFA’s preseason training camp?

McGeouch has been quick to laud the camp, which also assembles XIs to play professional clubs in preseason friendlies. McGeouch was on the books at the Stadium of Light from 2018 to 2020.

“Obviously everyone’s doing their own thing, but I think for most of the lads here, speaking to them, it’s tough doing your own stuff,” the 32-year-old said in an interview with the PFA. You can spend all day running through local parks and fields, but you can’t truly duplicate the type of training sessions, leg exercises, ball-kicking, and other activities. It’s good competition because you’re playing against players of the highest caliber.

the implies you’re pretty much set to go when the call comes through. It’s checking all the boxes because the game is obviously played during the week and gets minutes in the legs. Overall, I’ve had a great time. As I already stated, I’m coming down for the week, turning off, and focusing solely on football, and the sessions have been fantastic. Yes, it’s been great, and the guys have been amazing too. If it were possible, I would absolutely call and try to get down.

You can run in parks and use treadmills for all of your fitness runs, as I mentioned, but once you get down here, it’s completely different work. As I previously stated, you are completely prepared to leave when you receive that call.

Several well-known figures are currently enjoying the experience with McGeouch, as up to 40 players participate in the camp each week. These players include former Sunderland playmaker Chris Maguire, former Newcastle United defender Paul Dummett, and Scotland international goalkeeper Angus Gunn.
