Two men, 23, charged after anti-immigration and counter-protestors clash in second Dundee demonstration.
On Saturday afternoon, the two groups squared off on Alloway Terrace.
Two men, both 23, were charged after anti-immigrant and counter-protesters battled for the second time in Dundee. On Saturday afternoon, the two groups competed for roughly four hours on Alloway Terrace.
A large police presence kept them apart, and both sides traded insults across the barriers. Officers separated the two sides during Saturday’s protests, keeping them substantially apart from last week’s close standoff.
A huge expanse of “no man’s land” guaranteed that only insults, not physical objects, were thrown. Police later reported that two individuals, both aged 23, had been arrested and charged in connection with protest action.
It was the second rally on Alloway Terrace, following the egg-throwing protest last weekend.
Counter-protestors: ‘As long as they turn up, we will turn up’
The counter-protest, sponsored by Stand Up To Racism Tayside and the Dundee Trades Union Council, drew approximately 150 people. Harvey Duke, a senior steward for the counter-protesters, stated, “We’ve maintained good numbers here today.”
“It’s significant since the last time we faced a bombardment of not only eggs, but also rocks and vapes. “Despite this, we have seen a large number of people, including some vulnerable individuals, arrive without fear.
“We’re celebrating here while also pushing the opposite side, and music is being played. “The social problems we face are not the fault of asylum seekers, and they should not be blamed.” He added: “At the moment, the anti-immigrant organisers claim they plan to hold a weekly rally.
“As one of the organisers of the anti-racism protestors, I will say: as long as they turn up, we will turn up to make sure asylum seekers and local people feel safe and don’t feel intimidated.”
Anti-immigration protests ‘going to be every week,’ says organiser
On Saturday, approximately 100 anti-immigrant protestors gathered in Alloway Terrace, many of whom carried Scottish flags. At last week’s rally, one organiser told The Courier:
“We don’t want illegal migrants here, and we’re doing it for the women and children.” “It was a nonviolent protest, and it will be the first of many to follow.
“It will be every week after this. “We are going to boycott hotels, multi-occupancy dwellings, and bed and breakfasts. I cannot be a racist.
Look at the hue of my skin. “Half of the people here are not racist, either. “It’s the fact they’re [asylum seekers] here illegally and we don’t know anything about their background.” A spokesperson for Police Scotland stated:
“On Saturday, September 20, 2025, two men, both 23, were detained and charged in connection with protest action on Alloway Terrace in Dundee. “Both are scheduled to appear in court at a later date. “A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
