Steven Pressley picks out key impact of Dundee frontmen in Livi win as he hails ‘real sniffer of goals’

Steven Pressley picks out key impact of Dundee frontmen in Livi win as he hails ‘real sniffer of goals’.

The Dark Blues won 3-2, their first Premiership win of the season. Dundee scored three Premiership goals for the first time under Steven Pressley, securing a thrilling win over Livingston.

Callum Jones took the headlines with his last-gasp penalty, but manager Pressley was equally thrilled with the first two goals.

The first two goals, both set up by Cameron Congreve, marked the debut of two strikers in the league this season.

Skipper Simon Murray scored 16 Premier League goals last season but is yet to score this season. He scored Dundee’s first goal thanks to some clever footwork.

In the second half, Congreve used a sweeping passing move to find a frontman with his cross, and Joe Westley scored his first Dundee goal. “It’s great,” Pressley added.

“One is for Simon to get up and running. “He missed two weeks due to an injury, and he’s slowly regaining his rhythm.

“I thought he played pretty well in the second half last week. “On Saturday, he looked like himself again, which made me very happy.

“Joe Westley works relentlessly. He is such a team player. “He gives his best for the team and has an excellent goal-scoring instinct.

“Obviously, starting with two strikers who score is pleasing. “And, of course, Cam Congreve had two assists again.

“That was pleasing.”

‘Really difficult time’

There was also a lot of admiration for Callum Jones’ “courage” in converting the pressure penalty to win the game after a protracted wait.

But also for Charlie Reilly, the man who won the penalty. Reilly made his first competitive game of the season after recuperating from a fractured collarbone, but was hauled down by Danny Wilson in stoppage time.

“I was really pleased for Charlie Reilly,” Pressley said. “Charlie has had a very difficult time since arriving here. He has suffered numerous injuries. “He’s worked exceptionally hard and in that last 5-10 minutes, he really impacted the game.”
