Two murder investigations in Southampton as bodies found.

Southampton was startled when police reported that two persons had died, initiating two different murder investigations.

Police were called to a residence on Redwood Way in Bassett at 1.38pm on Sunday, where a man was arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman in her 30s. He has since been granted bail.

Police stated that another murder inquiry had been begun after a corpse was discovered in a wooded area of Southampton Common at 4.40 p.m. on Wednesday.

No arrests have been made in connection with the second death, which is now being viewed as suspicious, despite the fact that investigations are in their “early stages”. A police official verified that the occurrences were unrelated.

Eyewitnesses reported that “dozens” of forensic officers had been on the scene at Redwood Way since Sunday night, and they were seen hauling evidence bags out of a house and gathering at a garage yesterday afternoon.

Forensics just left at roughly 1.35pm yesterday, however a police presence of two cars persisted.

On Sunday, a 39-year-old man from Southampton was detained on suspicion of murder in connection with the event and later freed on conditional bail until January 5, 2026.

One resident stated that he witnessed the man being led out of a residence in handcuffs.

I know there are many homeless people tented in and around the neighbourhood, but I had no idea a body had been recovered. That is devastating. This is a stunningly lovely location, and the fact that anyone should die here, or anywhere, is tragic.

“That’s a great shame. “It makes me more self-conscious while wandering around the park.” A 76-year-old Southampton resident, who did not want to be recognised, said, “I’m utterly surprised.

It makes you wonder if someone was murdered right here on the common, or if someone thought it was a suitable place to hide a body.”

According to an eyewitness, police drones flew over the grounds about 1.30 p.m. yesterday.

“Our investigation is still in its early phases as we strive to determine the deceased’s identity and circumstances, but the death is now being viewed as suspicious.
