Sheffield retro: 28 joyous photos to bring back fond memories of growing up during the 60s and 70s.
If you were a child in the 1960s or 1970s, these images will undoubtedly bring back fond memories of growing up in Sheffield.
They illustrate several of the places that kids used to go, such as movies and bowling alleys, as well as a popular toy shop called Yorkshire Disneyland.
Children can be seen swimming around on a hot summer’s day at the crowded Millhouses Lido, following their parents around the vividly remembered Castle Market, and playing in the streets when there are fewer automobiles and kids have more freedom to explore.
This retro photo gallery also captures the excitement of joining the crowd in the city centre to see Sheffield lit up for Christmas, the thrill of hanging out in playgrounds when health and safety was still in its infancy, and the fun of making new friends at the action-packed summer holiday play schemes that ran at the time.
