‘Good news’ emerges about Sandro Tonali after comments about his future

Following remarks on his future, Sandro Tonali receives “good news.”

Following the Champions League victory over Athletic Club, Sandro Tonali addressed the midfield player’s future, sparking increased speculation about his departure from St. James’ Park.

The 25-year-old acknowledged that he was content to be a Newcastle United player at the moment, but he was unwilling to commit his long-term future to the team. After the Alexander Isak incident, Toon fans will value Tonali’s candour. Tonali’s remarks don’t concern Newcastle United, and they shouldn’t. The Magpies’ position is protected by the newly announced contract extension, but he has made it clear that he intends to stay on Tyneside for the time being.

A release clause is one item that can jeopardise that position, but Newcastle shouldn’t be concerned about it. Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has given an update on the 25-year-old’s circumstances following Howe’s admission that he has no issues with Tonali’s remarks. Downie has been discussing Tonali’s contract at St. James’ Park on his YouTube channel, revealing that there is no release clause in the deal he signed while he was banned.

“Many of you guys have expressed concern that he has a release clause in that [new contract],” he stated. “I can exclusively inform you that Sandro Tonali’s contract with Newcastle United does not contain a release clause. He didn’t have one at first, and the good news is that his current contract and the extension don’t contain a release clause.

“If and when Sandro Tonali does leave Newcastle United, it gives Newcastle more negotiating power with other clubs and allows Newcastle to control his value and price.” Tonali’s contract with Newcastle United expires in 2029, with a 12-month extension option. The Magpies have locked him down till 2030 in that regard.
