Despite having twice as many shots on goal (18 to 9) and a much higher xG (1.68 to the Saints’ 0.68), Stephan’s team fell against Southampton that week.
“We can’t say we are only unlucky at the end of a game, it’s not only that,” Stephan stated on BBC Radio London. “If we remark, ‘Oh, unlucky,’ we are not being honest. “We need to respect the defensive philosophy in every situation and be more clinical offensively. I’m fairly certain that we will win some games fast if we do that.”
