5 historic Dundee buildings that are up for sale.
Several historically significant sites, including former jute mills and mansions, are on the market.
Several historically significant buildings are for sale in Dundee. Some of the properties have planning authorisation for housing, while others are offered as blank slates to developers.
A few of the properties have been vacant for many years, having fallen out of use, yet they played a significant role in the city’s history.
The Courier examined five historic buildings on the market in Dundee.
Dighty Burn water mill
A partially collapsed mill on Dundee’s Dighty Burn, near Balmuirfield House, is slated to be auctioned in December. The B-listed former plash mill is derelict, with the roof removed in 2019 after collapsing.
According to the Mills Archive, the water mill was previously used for waulking, which is the process of creating cloth thick, soft, and felted through soaking, beating, and shrinking to make it appropriate for apparel.
The structure was awarded planning permission to be converted into a two-story home, however this lapsed in 2024.
The building was put on the market last year for £150,000. However, it will now go to auction on December 4 with a guide price of £99,000.
Rose House
The former Rose House care home is for sale with a recommended price of £1.4 million.
The Constitution Terrace care home closed in 2021 and has since been turned into student accommodation.
According to agency Christie & Co., the home has an HMO licence with a maximum capacity of 20 people and is already booked.
The property, which dates back to the 18th century, has 20 bedrooms, numerous communal spaces, fully equipped kitchens, a laundry, and a gym.
Rose House has been up for sale as the current owner seeks to focus on “other business interests”.
Eagle Mills jute mill
The Eagle Mills property on Victoria Street has been on the market since March 2025.
The former jute mill, which dates back to 1864, has planning clearance to be converted into a mix of residences and businesses. It was initially intended to house the pattern shop for Baxter Brothers Foundry.
Eagle Mill Capital’s plans to develop the 1.7-acre site into 68 dwellings date back to 2018, but no work has been completed. Savills is marketing the building for sale.
