National chain Cake Box plans new Dundee city centre shop

National chain Cake Box plans new Dundee city centre shop.

The company, known for its egg-free products, intends to open a location on Reform Street.

A national cake chain could be moving into Dundee’s city core. Cake Box has submitted proposals for a vacant shop property on Reform Street.

Amplifon, a hearing aid firm, once occupied the site, however it has been unoccupied since January 2019. Cake Box was started in 2008 and now has over 230 outlets in the United Kingdom, including one in Dunfermline’s Kingsgate Shopping Centre.

The company does not utilise eggs in its cakes and prepares them for a variety of occasions such as birthdays, baby showers, and weddings.

Plans lodged for Cake Box outlet in Dundee

According to planning documents, agent David Jarvie made an application on behalf of Cake Box for a new shopfront at the property.

The company also wants to make changes to the 110 square metre flat. These include equipping the site with a customer area, counter, preparation room, cold store and storage space at the back of the B-listed building.

Cake Box could join other food companies on Reform Street, such as Wendy’s, which plans to take over the former Fridays and Go restaurant.

In our most recent Dundee Planning Ahead round-up, the Courier examined other city-wide development plans.
