How to have your say on future plans for Hartlepool’s waterfront area

How to have your say on future plans for Hartlepool’s waterfront area.

Council leaders hope to create a masterplan to help define the future of Hartlepool’s expanding waterfront region.

The area now houses Hartlepool Marina’s pubs and restaurants, as well as the National Museum of the Royal Navy and the Hartlepool Museum.

It also houses Highlight, the town’s new multimillion-pound fitness and leisure complex, which is set to open in the spring of 2026.

Work on the masterplan involves a consultation to determine how many people are aware of this area of Hartlepool, how it is now used, and what could bring people to the waterfront in the future.

This covers a variety of prospective ideas for Hartlepool Waterfront’s future development, based on examples from other locations, and asks the audience how interested they are in seeing them introduced to the area.

Water-based activities in the Marina area, such as kayaking and swimming, boat excursions along the coast, a water taxi to Hartlepool Headland, floating gardens and walkways, and a moveable pedestrian bridge, are all suggested.

Other poll ideas include open-air events, markets, independent shopping, a food and drink offering with outdoor seating, children’s play spaces, pathways, and the use of the area for outdoor arts, themed events, and festivals.

Plans for waterfront revitalisation were strengthened earlier this year when the council secured £631,000 from The National Lottery Heritage Fund for its proposal to improve visitor experiences at the Museum of Hartlepool and the paddle steamer Wingfield Castle.

The survey on the waterfront masterplan is open until Monday, December 8.
