Aberdeen hotels more than treble room rates as visitors flock to city for Offshore Europe

Aberdeen hotels more than treble room rates as visitors flock to city for Offshore Europe.

A hotel room in Granite City during the event week can cost as much as £301 per night. Hotels in Aberdeen increased their nightly rates for the Offshore Europe event. One room could cost you as much as £301 per night.

The event, which begins on September 2 and runs through September 5, is held at the city’s P&J Live near Dyce. The biannual exhibition is expected to draw thousands of visitors from around the world.

Hotels are capitalising on the demand, and rooms will fill up, even though some hotels have tripled their standard room rates.

The Press & Journal looked up hotel prices throughout the city and compared them to the weeks before and after.

How much will one night cost?

During August, you can pay as little as £95 per night at the four-star Malmaison Aberdeen hotel. However, a room for September 3 will cost at least £301.

The cheapest advertised price for staying here for the duration of the event is £835, with breakfast costing an additional £52.50.

Holiday Inn has raised the price of its Granite City hotels, with prices starting at £218 at the city centre location, more than three times the £66 per night the following week.

Meanwhile, the airport hotel’s prices have risen from £78 to £228 per night, a 192% increase. The Hilton TECA hotel is next to the P&J Live, and all of its rooms for the first night are booked.

The limited availability for the remainder of the week would cost you a whopping £285 per night.

The Norwood Hotel on Garthdee Road now has rooms starting at £188.37, up from £78.48 per night next week.

And at Lost Guest House on Bon Accord Street, a room that would usually cost £38 is available for £110.

Offshore Europe hotel price surge nothing new

Given the timing of Offshore Europe, the increase in hotel room prices is not unexpected.

Two years ago, when the conference was last held, one hotel charged up to £700 per night for a room.

The Holiday Inn Aberdeen West, in Westhill, was responsible for the staggering £700 price tag, which was 415% higher than usual. Meanwhile, the Brittania Aberdeen Hotel in Bucksburn charges £349 for a room without a window.
