Afri-Fest to become ‘powerful tool’ for schools

Afri-Fest to become ‘powerful tool’ for schools.

Following the success of a newly established African festival, organisers hope to collaborate with local schools.

More than 2,500 people gathered in Norwich earlier this month for Afri-Fest East, a celebration of African culture, music, and cuisine.

The non-profit festival began in 2024, organised by three friends who founded a community company called Few Good Men.

“The festival is to get people talking and [for young people] to feel proud of their heritage,” said Dr.

Sopuru Mokwe, creative director. “One of the festival’s goals was to instill confidence in young people, encouraging them to explore, whether through music or the arts.

“They have an opportunity to experience their culture, a snippet of it, we know that’s not enough but hopefully it strikes a conversation, a spark to begin to explore their heritage.”
