Antonio set to join Al‑Sailiya after Charlton talks

Antonio will join Al-Sailiya following negotiations with Charlton.

In addition to practicing with Charlton Athletic, the former West Ham striker had preliminary discussions about a pay-as-you-play contract with the Championship team. However, the 35-year-old is set to sign with Al-Sailiya, a team in the Qatari Stars League, for the remaining six games of their season.

Confirmation of his relocation to the Middle East is anticipated in the next few days. After suffering many leg fractures in an accident in December 2024, Antonio has not participated in any competitive games in England.

He played for Jamaica at the Concacaf Gold Cup in June, but West Ham cut him before the current campaign began. The record Premier League scorer for the Hammers had discussions about possible transfers with Brentford and Leicester City, but both agreements fell through.

John Mousinho, the manager of Portsmouth, added that he thought about signing Antonio. The forward says he felt “close to dying” following the Essex incident and feels he has been given “another chance at life” in an exclusive interview with the BBC in March.
