Argyle boss Cleverley praises goal-scorer Curtis

Argyle boss Cleverley praises goal-scorer Curtis.

Plymouth Argyle manager Tom Cleverley singled out new signing Ronan Curtis for praise after the winger scored his first goal for the club in a 3-1 victory over Leyton Orient.

The 29-year-old was the first to react to the rebound after Orient goalkeeper Tobi Oluwayemi spilt Owen Dale’s long-range drive with the game tied in east London.

After the game, Cleverley praised Curtis’ effect since joining from Port Vale last month.

“Ronan has been outstanding since he joined the club,” he told BBC Radio Devon. “In every phase, he has a high level of technical and physical quality.” Cleverley continued, “He’s proved at this level.

He is a valuable asset to the club and can mentor younger players. His aerial skills, set-piece delivery, crossing, and creativity have all been exceptional.

“He’s got off the mark now – [he was] incredibly proactive pursuing the rebound, which is something we discussed before the game, and he’s not a bad kid off the pitch.

Curtis has already started as many league games for Argyle as he did for Port Vale during the first half of the season, where he helped the club achieve promotion to League One last season.

After the match, he reflected on his first goal for Plymouth and expressed his happiness to be back playing football. “We do analysis on the opposition,” he told BBC Radio Devon. “We noted that the custodian parries frequently.

I’m in the right position at the right moment and have only just started.I’ve spent the majority of my career in level One, so I’m very familiar with the level.

“Last season was fantastic. “I didn’t play as much as I’d like to with Port Vale this season, but it was a no-brainer for me coming here, and since then, it’s been amazing and everyone has really let me settle in.”
