Argyle in transfer ‘no man’s land’ – Cleverley.
Plymouth Argyle’s head coach, Tom Cleverley, says the club is no closer to signing a new striker or centre back.
Cleverley, who took over as Argyle manager in the summer, sees the two positions as critical areas for improvement.
Argyle have been looking for an experienced central striker all summer, while a new central defender has become more of a priority since Julio Pleguezuelo had knee surgery.
“Everyone’s working as hard as they possibly can,” Cleverley told BBC Devon. “The hard work is happening behind the scenes.
“We’re in that no man’s land of the window – the majority on the business gets done really early or in the last week and we’re in that no man’s land where itl;s a bit of a stalemate between clubs.” Regarding the club’s search for a central defender, Cleverley added: “It’s really tough.
A lot of things need to align, if you don’t have enough money to outperform everyone in the league.
I don’t want to go into too much detail because it would reveal other clubs’ or players’ issues, but there are more than just geographical and financial challenges when trying to do these deals, and we’re currently facing a couple of them.”
