Ashley Young return to Watford rated at 50-50 after talks

The Watford Observer reports that the odds of a planned deal to bring Ashley Young back to Watford are currently 50/50.

Talks between the Hornets and their former player have been going on all summer, and earlier today (Wednesday), national sources connected Young to a homecoming. More: Watford ought to insist that Ashley Young return to the Rookery End to celebrate.

Although a move is far from imminent, Young, a free agent who left Everton, would love to rejoin his boyhood team if the appropriate agreement could be struck.

Not because of his reputation as a successful academy graduate, Watford will only sign the former England international if head coach Paulo Pezzolano feels he wants to work with him. Young turned 40 last week, but Watford was reassured by Everton’s medical staff that he is doing well.

After 110 games, 22 goals, and a crucial part in Aidy Boothroyd’s historic promotion in 2006, Young left Vicarage Road more than eighteen years ago.

In addition to winning a number of additional titles including Premier League and Serie A medals while playing for Aston Villa, Manchester United, and Inter Milan, he made 39 appearances for England, including leading the Three Lions to the 2018 World Cup semifinals.
