Baleba ‘eager to discuss’ Man Utd move as Brighton chief responds and price tag set

Paul Barber, the deputy chairman and chief executive of Brighton & Hove Albion, has stated that Manchester United has not contacted him over a potential summer transfer for Carlos Baleba.

Baleba was reportedly named Man United’s top midfield target for the rest of the transfer window on Wednesday night. It has also been reported that the Red Devils have been in contact with Brighton via middlemen to negotiate a possible trade.

Barber has denied that the 20-time English champions had contacted him, but the Brighton manager hasn’t completely ruled out the Cameroon international leaving before the summer transfer window closes.

“We have some really talented people. Interest in our players will never go away. I have not received any communication from Manchester United. “Speculation is speculation from that perspective,” he stated during a discussion for fans at the Amex.

“We’ll always make an effort to sell our top players when it’s best for both of us and the individual. If we do that with any player, it will be so that Fabian has a very competitive team no matter what.

Brighton manager: “Man United has not contacted me regarding Baleba.”

“We do not wish to part with our top players. We hope Carlos will be here for many years to come because he is a great talent with many years ahead of him.

“However, it is something that, as usual, is dependent on the unpredictable dynamics of the football world.”

Since joining Brighton from Lille in the summer of 2023, the 21-year-old has made 77 appearances, tallying four goals and dishing out two assists.

With Baleba’s contract at the Amex set to expire in June 2028 and an additional 12-month option, the Seagulls are well-positioned to negotiate.

After speaking with his camp directly, the midfield player has not ruled out a move to Manchester United this summer, although a deal is “very difficult,” according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.

Man United should “break the bank” for Baleba, Ferdinand says.

Rio Ferdinand, the former captain of Manchester United, recently stated on his official YouTube account: “I would move midfield if I couldn’t get a striker. To be honest, I’m just considering one name that I believe would be a good suit for our needs.

A player of the Amorim variety as well. Excellent physical attributes, center midfield experience, excellent tactical skills, amazing energy, terrific legs, and the ability to drive with the ball and take it in all directions. Baleba (Carlos). I’m going to get that person. My man is that. I’m going to go get that. I’m going to blow the bank.

The squad now has room for a new midfield player after Christian Eriksen left on a free transfer at the end of June. Improving that position before the transfer window ends is considered a top priority.

Though other reports have put the Cameroonian’s valuation closer to £100 million, Brighton may ultimately price Man United out of a deal. The Seagulls are believed to seek at least £85 million for the player.
