Behrami: Watford are ‘open’ as transfer deadline approaches.
Valon Behrami has confirmed that Watford are looking to sign a defender in the final ten days of the transfer window.
Following reports linking the Hornets with a move for Ipswich Town centre-back Luke Woolfenden this morning, Behrami stated that the club is considering several options.
Prior to Callum Doyle’s permanent move to Wrexham, a loan move from Manchester City was considered, as was a deal for Denys Popov from Dynamo Kyiv.
According to the Watford Observer, a holding midfielder is still a key target.
Moves for a centre-back and midfielder Sandi Lovric were considered close last week – and both are still possible – but, as the assistant sporting director explained, a number of other options may emerge at this point in the window.

We are open to looking for players and have a few more days to do so. The end of August is unique because anything can occur.
Players at any club may want to leave because they have realised they have not found the right solution or what they expected.
“There are numerous opportunities; it did not appear to be this way at the start of the summer.
“We will not make signings based on numbers. We want to improve the team; we’re interested in their ability and quality.”
Tom Dele-Bashiru may leave Watford this month (Image: PA). Tom Dele-Bashiru, who has yet to start in the Championship and was substituted at half-time during the Carabao Cup defeat to Norwich, has been linked with a move away throughout the summer.
Behrami revealed Dele-Bashiru could leave this month, but he is also in much better shape to help the team after recovering from an injury that disrupted his summer.
The assistant sporting director stated, “He had a knee problem at the start of pre-season, but he has improved significantly in the last three or four weeks. “Of course, if there is an opportunity for him to go out and play, and he wants to go, we will sit down and discuss it.
“Right now, even if he isn’t playing, he is a leader in the way he trains, and we need him to stay focused.
“He had a tough game against Norwich but it doesn’t change how we judge him, it’s what he brings day by day that’s important.”
