Birmingham’s poshest neighbourhood has city’s highest burglary rate

Birmingham’s poshest neighbourhood has city’s highest burglary rate.

The leafy city suburb includes million pound homes.

The ‘poshest’ neighbourhood of Birmingham has the greatest burglary rate, according to crime data research. Edgbaston rarely tops a crime list, yet it does when it comes to burglary.

Crime is relatively low in the suburb, which is considered one of the greatest places to live; nonetheless, burglary is a problem on some of the city’s most affluent streets. In the year leading up to July 2025, 302 break-ins were reported in the neighbourhood, with about one occurring every day on average.

It ranked Edgbaston higher than Selly Oak, South Yardley, Stockland Green, Lozells, and East Handsworth on the city’s burglary list.

A closer look at crime maps revealed that Edgbaston burglary hotspots were primarily located near the main Hagley Road. We recently discovered that Edgbaston has the most expensive streets in Birmingham.

These privileged streets have big mansions, many of which are behind high walls or gates for increased security. The most expensive street is leafy Westfield Road, with properties selling for an average of £1.67 million.

According to West Midlands Police, break-ins decreased by 12% between April and August compared to the same period previous year, and officers have visited all recorded home burglaries since December 2022, unless victims had asked otherwise.

A spokeswoman stated, “We are committed to following the trail of evidence in all cases we examine.

However, if an investigation finds no witnesses, CCTV, or forensic evidence, the chances of identifying offenders are greatly reduced.”

“We continuously evaluate and refine our strategies, we remain committed to providing a safer environment for all members of the public.”
