Blackburn scaffolding collapse left builders hanging on.

Scaffolding fell around a builder into a Blackburn street, leaving two others clutching on and one hurt.

After a large portion of the scaffolding on homes undergoing renovations detached from the wall, this was the scene on Stephen Street in Mill Hill in March 1990.

“I was working one minute and clinging to the bricks on the wall the next,” one of the builders remarked. Everything just vanished. I was frightened.

 

According to a fire department spokesperson, the remaining scaffolding was in a dangerous condition after the fall and would not be moved until a building inspector had examined the damage.
