Bola: “We Deserved Something From The Game”.

Marc Bola was disappointed to leave The Valley empty-handed as the Hornets opened the 2025/26 Sky Bet Championship season with a 1-0 loss to Charlton Athletic.

Harvey Knibbs scored the only goal deep into stoppage time to give the Addicks the victory on the opening day. “We knew that it was going to be difficult,” Bola told the crowd. “We did everything we were supposed to do:

we defended well, and we should have had a penalty. “We only made one mistake, which was on the second ball for the goal. Just a little concentration. “But we had opportunities as well. If we had received the penalty we deserved, the story would have been different.”

The 27-year-old was one of five Hornets making their debuts against the League One play-off final winners.

After a hard-working preseason under new Head Coach Paulo Pezzolano, Bola felt Watford deserved more than nothing. “We’ve been working for six weeks on this,” the left-back said. “We worked hard, defended well for 93 minutes, and deserved something from the game.

“The supporters were fantastic today; they were the 12th man.”
“We just need to keep going. It’s the first game and we’ve got loads to go.”
