OFFICIAL REMEMBRANCE FIXTURE TO BE MARKED BY THE BOURNEMOUTH GAME
This Saturday, when Unai Emery’s team plays the Cherries at Villa Park (ko 2pm), Villa Park will unite in remembrance of the dead who gave the ultimate sacrifice. The Villans will once more wear Poppies on their shirts against Andoni Iraola’s team after doing so against Liverpool last weekend. A number of additional events are also scheduled. As part of the pre-match Remembrance Parade, B6 will welcome the Military Lions, an official supporter group, prior to kickoff. When the players come out to warm up, members of the armed forces will line the tunnel for them. After the warm-ups are over, they will parade out onto the pitch.
After that, a wreath will be placed inside the centre circle, the poem “For the Fallen” will be read, there will be a moment of silence, and “The Last Post” will be performed. A walking banner display organised by the 1897 Group and a fan-led papercard exhibition will be held in The Holte End lower tier during the quiet. It is an incredible privilege for the Military Lions to participate in the Remembrance Parade on the pitch at Villa Park. For those involved—veterans, active military personnel, and ardent Aston Villa supporters—this event has profound and intimate meaning.
It is a pleasure that strikes everyone’s heart to honour the warriors who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom while standing on the same ground where soldiers in claret and blue have made history. The Remembrance Parade is more than simply a custom; it’s an opportunity to stop, think, and honour those who have never returned home, those who are still serving, and the families that support them. For many of us, football and service have always gone hand in hand since the virtues of bravery, loyalty, and collaboration are shared both on the pitch and in combat.
It means more than words can express to be acknowledged by our club and to join hundreds of other supporters in a moment of quiet. Generations congregate at Villa Park, and during the Remembrance Parade, the club, the military community, and the supporters come together as one to remember. We march respectfully, we wear our poppies with dignity, and we never forget.
