Brendan Rodgers and that Rangers supporting bloke from BBC Scotland.

In a post-match interview with BBC Scotland’s Alisdair Lamont, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers refused to discuss potential new signings.

Rodgers insists that even if no new signings arrive before next week’s Champions League match against Kazakh side Kairat Almaty, he is confident in his current squad.

Following his team’s 4-1 victory over Falkirk to advance to the Premier Sports League Cup quarterfinals, the Irishman quickly found the post-match focus shifting to Celtic’s muted transfer activity.

BBC Sportsound’s Alasdair Lamont pressed Rodgers on whether any new signings were expected ahead of the Champions League playoffs next week.

Rodgers told BBC Sportsound: “I’m not sure, I just came out of the game here. We’ll have to wait and see; we named the squad before the game.

If not, that’s the squad we’ll go with.” When asked if he was optimistic about making any signings, the Celtic manager replied: “Ok, let me repeat what I just said. I’ve just finished the game. I have no idea what happened during the game’s 90 odd minutes. I know nothing. There might be, or there might not be, but we have the team we have.”

Rodgers is clearly building a strong team, with only a few pieces and quality missing in the forward areas before his side is ready to compete in all competitions this season.

However, in order to compete on all fronts and do so successfully this season, the manager requires support. It needs to happen. The clock is ticking for Celtic’s board to add talent and back the manager.

While it is true that Celtic still require an injection of quality, last night was a decent evening for Rodgers’ side, who will look to kick off their campaign by defeating Kairat Almaty next Wednesday — an encounter that will provide the clearest indication yet of where this Celtic team stands.

Here’s what Rodgers said before and after the 4-1 Premier Sports League Cup win over Falkirk at Celtic Park, as reported by BBC Scotland’s Alasdair Lamont.

Brendan Rodgers

Lamont’s: You had to name a squad by the Champions League deadline, but you can name two more players before the game.

Is there any chance of adding players to that squad? Brendan Rodgers: “I’m not sure.” I just got here after the game, so we’ll have to wait and see. We have named the squad and will wait to see what happens before the game. If not, that’s the squad we’ll go with.” Lamont:

Can you be optimistic about the situation? There must be things in the pipeline that you believe could go one way or the other. Brendan Rodgers: “Okay, let me repeat what I said.

I have just finished the game. I didn’t tell you anything before or during the 90-odd minutes of the game.

I know nothing. I know nothing. So, there may or may not be. So we have our current team.”
