Brighton HorrorFest is back for its tenth year anniversary.
Brighton HorrorFest returns for its 10 year anniversary celebration.
The festival will last 13 days, from October 18 to October 30, at Sweet@The Yellow Book. This year’s festival will feature a variety of horror performances from around the UK, as well as theatre, cabaret, comedy, spoken word, and storytelling.
One of the festival’s highlights is the return of Different Theatre’s Sary. Sharon Drain and Maria Evans star in this feminist-folk-horror theatre piece that explores themes of female sexuality, ageing, and grief.
It was written and directed by Sam Chittenden, an award-winning writer. The play will begin at 6.30 p.m. on Friday, October 24.
Another familiar face returning to Brighton is Sweet Productions’ Jekyll & Hyde: A One Woman Show. The international, multi-award-winning play has returned to Brighton.
The performance is scheduled for Thursday, October 23, at 8 p.m. B.A.D.D., produced by Hermetic Arts, invites attendees to learn how to protect children from Satan’s grips during the inaugural meeting. The show is scheduled for Sunday, October 19, at 6.30 p.m., and it includes complimentary cherryade.
Improv The Dead: Zombie Family Fun is a family-friendly improvised zombie adventure for children aged 7 and up. The audience makes all of the decisions for the program, which will take place on Sunday, October 19, at 3.30pm.
House of Fear’s Ramon Fear’s Terror Tapes: Live, on the other hand, is sure to delight aficionados of horror-comedy. This play, a live stage adaptation of the nominated horror-comedy anthology podcast, will be performed on Wednesday, October 22, at 6.30pm.
Elysium, by Ghouls Aloud, is a modern ghost story set in a high-end London gated neighbourhood with a live soundtrack. This award-winning, critically praised horror film has a “visceral” political message.
The venue, famed for its gothic-meets-cosy hospitality, serves as the festival’s haunted house and is open throughout the year. It serves a changing selection of local beers on tap and has an incredible cocktail menu.
Aside from concerts, the Brighton HorrorFest provides a variety of eerie activities to enjoy. These include club nights, an art show, craft events, and Sweet Productions’ The Court, a live ‘zine centred on folk revival.
The latter, on Thursday, October 30, at 7.30 p.m., will showcase its Samhain edition, while a seasonal night market will highlight some of Brighton’s best artists and local makers. The festival’s creative director, JD Henshaw, spoke about the forthcoming milestone.
He said: “It’s fantastic to spend the Halloween season providing incredible live performances from all throughout Brighton and the UK to our audiences.
“We all know how difficult it is out there in the world, and managing to get from an idea in your head to a stage full of dreams (or, in this case, nightmares) is no mean feat.”
