Brighton woman feels ‘dirty’ at bin infested with maggots

Brighton woman feels ‘dirty’ at bin infested with maggots.

A woman claims she feels “dirty” because her trash became infected with maggots after not being collected for weeks.

Tracey MacKenzie, a resident of Carlton Terrace in Portslade, claims her trash is “full of maggots” after not being emptied by refuse collectors for five weeks.

The 60-year-old has lived in her basement flat for six years and claims she’s never had a problem with garbage collection – until now.

“The binmen have missed me out five weeks on the trot now,” Tracey complained. “They get all the other bins, but not mine.

“It’s driving me mad.”

Tracey claims her rubbish has not been collected for five weeks.

Tracey claims she spoke with Brighton and Hove City Council about it over the phone and was assured that someone will come and empty the bin.

But this hasn’t happened yet, and Tracey is losing patience.

“Me and my son have tried to keep it tidy, jet washing the area and picking up the loose rubbish,” she told me. “Because we live in a basement flat, everything comes down the stairs.

“But this has gone on for too long. If they can’t do their job, I won’t clean it anymore.”

Tracey stated that her son discovered an unpleasant discovery in the troubled garbage on Monday.

“My son noticed all the maggots in the bin,” she told me. “The bin is so full that the bin bags have ripped.

“It makes me feel quite disgusting. “Nobody wants maggots in their house.”

Brighton and Hove City Council is responsible for residential waste collection, specifically through its environmental services department, which goes by the moniker Cityclean.

A representative for Brighton and Hove City Council stated, “The bin in question is a glass recycling bin that has been filled with general refuse and is thus contaminated.””Normally, the crew reports pollution, which is subsequently allocated to a waste team for collection.

“We apologise for the delay, however we can confirm that the garbage has been collected.
“We’re reviewing our protocols to ensure we can deal with contaminated trash more rapidly in the future.

“We’d also encourage residents to ensure they are placing the right materials in the right bins, and details of what can be recycled and how are available on our website.”
