Burnley vagrant twice caught drinking booze in town centre.
A man seen drinking from a bottle of vodka outside Greggs in Burnley clashed with police and was arrested for being drunk and disorderly.
Just over a week later, Paul Manly was discovered on the floor drinking from a bottle of whisky, and he was detained again for violating a public place protection order, according to Blackburn Magistrates Court.
Manly, 58, of no permanent address, pleaded guilty to both charges. He was fined £80 and told to pay £85 in costs and a £32 victim surcharge.
The prosecutor, Courtney Thompson, stated that officers on patrol in the town centre were made aware of a guy causing disturbances at Greggs. “He was clearly drunk and was standing in the shop doorway drinking from a bottle of vodka,” Mrs.
Thompson claimed. “He was asked to put the bottle down, but was reluctant and became abusive.” Just over a week later, cops discovered him sleeping on the floor on St James Street, sipping from a bottle of whisky. “He was instructed not to drink in the area designated by the public space protection order.
In mitigation, David Leach stated that his client had dealt with his drinking problems until his brother’s death.
