Bus users question Transdev’s decision to hike prices

Bus users in Blackburn have questioned Transdev’s decision to raise prices during a cost-of-living crisis.

Transdev, the operator of The Burnley Bus Company and The Blackburn Bus Company, has stated that rates will change starting January 18.

All-day tickets will increase from £6 to £7.50 from today, while weekly tickets will rise from £19 to £25.

However, Nicola Woolloff stated that the price increase will be extremely harmful to her and her coworkers, which she attributes primarily to the loss of local Blackburn tickets.

She stated, “It’s wrong not to visit outside of Blackburn’s local districts.

“A few work colleagues have stated that they cannot afford the price increase, and the most of us do not travel outside of Blackburn. Most of my coworkers solely use it for work purposes.

“I filed a complaint with Transdev Blackburn, as did my coworkers, and have yet to receive a response. Even bus drivers have expressed their displeasure with the decision to discontinue Blackburn local tickets.

“Transdev has only given six weeks’ notice that they are putting prices up, and not everyone knows about the price hike, and it’s totally wrong.”

According to a business representative, the modifications would result in lower costs for many consumers, especially those traveling long distances.

According to the corporation, new tickets, such as the ‘Lancashire Ticket’, would provide greater flexibility across a bigger geographical area.

Furthermore, there will be no difference in ticket prices for passengers undertaking a single or return trip.

A spokeswoman stated, “While some ticket prices will change on January 18, many customers will actually pay less for the same journey, particularly those travelling longer distances within Lancashire or to and from Manchester.”

“For example, our new ‘Lancashire Ticket’ will provide better value and greater flexibility throughout a bigger geographic area, and the new Duo and Group tickets provide better value for our clients traveling together or as a family.

“Crucially, there is absolutely no change in ticket price for customers making a single or return journey, with single fares remaining capped at £3 each way.”
