Cafe owner spots burglar on CCTV during break-in

During the break-in, the proprietor of the cafe observes the burglar on CCTV.

A café owner has recounted how she saw a burglar on CCTV and warned him off before he broke into her property.

Nicola Conneely, who owns Playwrights Cafe in the Canal Basin of Coventry, claimed that in the early hours of Monday, he broke a window to get inside. A message on her phone, connected to cameras she had set up, informed her of the break-in. Officers were conducting an investigation, according to West Midlands Police. The Canal Basin firm has been owned by Mrs. Conneely for five years, but this was the first time it has been broken into.

“My phone alerted me that the alarm was going off at precisely two in the morning. Fortunately, it woke me up, so I immediately turned on the CCTV and noticed that someone was entering through the rear window,” she remarked. “We can notify them via the CCTV system, but I was in a bit of a panic and couldn’t figure out which button to click in my drowsy state, so my next instinct was to contact the landline to let them know they were being observed. “As soon as I rang the phone luckily they turned around and went straight back out again.”

In order to replace the broken glass and restore the area’s safety, the Playwrights Cafe had to close for the day. Although nothing was taken during the break-in, her employees lost out on a day’s pay and the company lost several hundred pounds in trade. After sharing information about the break-in on social media, Mrs. Conneely claimed she received an abundance of assistance. “I just had so many messages, and by the end of the day, there were like hundreds of people who wanted to help,” she stated.

“Small companies existed to help other small companies. And the feeling of community is truly what it’s all about. She also complimented the cops on their prompt action. “It was probably like a minute after we’d been broken into I dialled 999 and when I later reviewed the CCTV you can see that they arrived within six minutes with a police dog unit,” she stated. “I know the police don’t always get the best comments about them, but the response we’ve had has been fantastic.”
