One unambiguous Nathan Jones requirement will allow Charlton Athletic to enter the Premier League.
The start of the 2025–2026 season has been very different from what many Charlton Athletic supporters had anticipated, but for the better. Many Addicks supporters would have anticipated their team to be fighting at the bottom of the table in an attempt to secure their spot in the second division for a second season after winning the League One play-off final against Leyton Orient last season. But that hasn’t been the case at all.
With 19 points from their first twelve games, Charlton is now in last place for the playoffs. Many Addicks supporters, who are currently riding high but are also considering whether a spot in the Premier League for the upcoming season could be achieved, have their hopes raised after some astute business in the summer, which brought in some marquee signings and kept Nathan Jones around for their first season back in the Championship since 2019/20.
One thing is certain: having Jones in the dugout is crucial if they want to change their objectives for the upcoming season. He was immediately well-liked by Charlton supporters due to his quick start, and getting promoted only served to highlight that. Jones has managed 87 games with the Addicks thus far, averaging 1.7 points per game and recording an outstanding win rate of 48%. His first stint with the Hatters had the only higher average, with a 52% win percentage and 1.8 points per game.
Even though Charlton Athletic’s chances of getting promoted are slim, they still have a lot of football left in this Championship season, so if they continue to play at a high level, Jones’ team has the best chance of making it into the Premier League. The league is wide open, and the Addicks are making the most of it because other teams in the division, like Southampton, Ipswich, and Sheffield United, to mention a few, have not yet performed up to expectations this season. Charlton has already scored three points against the latter two, and Jones deserves recognition for those triumphs.
It may seem corny, but if Charlton wants to secure their spot in the top six at the conclusion of the season, they must take each game as it comes. The Addicks will view their next matchup with Swansea City at the Valley as a chance to earn a significant three points. Should they succeed, other teams will start to view the Southeast London team as a serious contender this season.

But as was already noted, Nathan Jones is a major factor in their continued success, and keeping him with the team for the foreseeable future will be a major task. Charlton has a good chance of returning to the Premier League before long if they can accomplish that.
