Cleverley to examine reasons for Argyle’s poor start.

Plymouth Argyle head coach Tom Cleverley believes everyone at the club must investigate why the team has lost its first two League One games.

The Pilgrims, who were relegated from the Championship last season, had no shots on goal as they lost 2-0 at Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.

It came seven days after a 3-1 home loss to Barnsley on the opening day, which was marred by defensive errors and numerous missed opportunities. “It is up to everyone at the football club to do an internal reflection on themselves,” Cleverley told BBC Radio Devon. “Where can we make this better?” I will focus primarily on the technical aspects of the project as well as the team’s overall balance.

“I am confident that everyone at the football club, both staff and players, will look within themselves, which is the most important thing. “I think if I can say two things I’ve learnt from hard times is work harder and look in the mirror first.” Argyle has not lost their first two league games since the start of the 2016-17 season.

That season, they went on a 14-game unbeaten streak in the league, winning 11 games, laying the groundwork for a season in which they finished second in League Two on goal differential. Argyle’s lack of attacking options was highlighted by their defeat at Bolton.

After losing Ryan Hardie and Mustapha Bundu this summer, Argyle have signed young forwards Bim Pepple and Owen Oseni. However, the club has yet to sign an experienced first-choice striker. Cleverley says they are still looking for a new forward and are hopeful for some success soon.

“If we want to go after the ambitions that we have at this club we need strengthening,” Cleverley explained. “A significant bid has been submitted. The first one was rejected, the second was accepted, and this is where we are now.

“We’re into plan C, D and E now, but that’s why you have a plan C, D and E because rarely does plan A get executed if you don’t have the budget of some of the other clubs in the league.”
