Cocaine-fuelled driver led police on 150mph chase from Dundee

Cocaine-fuelled driver led police on 150mph chase from Dundee.

Javed Din drove at high speeds before colliding with a slip road, a court heard.

An overseas worker led police on a 150-mph chase while impaired by drugs and disqualified from driving. Javed Din overtook and passed several more vehicles before colliding.

The Dundee Sheriff Court was shown dashcam footage of pursuing officers driving at 147 mph and fighting to keep up with Din’s BMW 335. Din was prohibited from driving for a year in April 2024, but he led police on the harrowing high-speed chase six months later.

Din, 29, of Dundee, was given bail to prepare pre-sentence background reports.

Spotted defying ban

Fiscal depute Lee Corr told the court: “He was disqualified for dangerous driving at Forfar Sheriff Court on April 16, 2024, and is banned until he passes the extended test.”

“At 4.17pm on Monday, October 7, 2024, police officers on uniform patrol in a marked vehicle noticed a silver BMW exiting a roundabout and travelling east.

“They spotted the vehicle and the accused, who they knew was forbidden. “Officers drove east on the A92, gaining ground to catch up. The accused was some distance ahead.

“He was travelling at an extreme speed. “Other troops were informed and headed to the A92. “Blue lights were deployed, but the accused refused to stop.

“He accelerated aggressively, producing a plume of black smoke from the exhaust. “He began to drive much above the 70 mph speed limit. “A pursuit was authorised.”

Smoke-belching car pursued

Mr Corr claimed Din’s 17-year-old Audi was still emitting black smoke as he crossed a slip road at 132 mph and continued towards Arbroath.

“The pursuing officers reached speeds of 147 mph, but the accused continued to pull away. “They believed he was going more than 150 mph. “He overtook many vehicles at excessive speeds.

“He proceeded to accelerate aggressively, exceeding 145 mph. He passed cars at excessive speeds. According to the prosecutor, Din was weaving from lane to lane in order to overtake and pass multiple other cars and vans while being pursued.

He quickly vanished from view before officers discovered he had gone off on a slip road and lost control of the vehicle, which collided with a kerb and wound up on a grass mound.

Drug wipe

The fiscal said, “He was removed from the driver’s seat and surrendered. “He was put in handcuffs.

He was unharmed, but his airbags had deployed, leaving him shocked. “He claimed he panicked and took the opportunity to flee the cops. “Checks revealed he was already disqualified.

A sample of breath tested negative for alcohol. “Saliva was collected for a drug wipe. That tested positive for cocaine.” Subsequent examination revealed that he had an excess of the cocaine metabolite benzoylecgonine in his system (64mics/50).Defence solicitor Gary Fowlis stated:

“He works offshore in the oil business. “He has a partner and a young child.” He is the primary breadwinner, thus this will have an impact on them. Din confessed driving dangerously at high speeds and using drugs when banned on the A92 Dundee-Arbroath road on October 7, 2018.
