Council offers Luton resident £100 for “injustice caused” over homelessness assessment.
A Luton resident has been granted £100 after complaining to the borough council about how her homelessness assessment was handled.
She also protested to the local administration and the social care ombudsman about the situation. However, according to the ombudsman’s findings, the local government watchdog determined that the council “has taken the appropriate action to prevent the reoccurrence of this fault”.
According to the report, LBC’s offer of £100 as “a remedy for the injustice caused” indicates that there are no other concerns of public interest to support our investigation.
The resident complained that the local government failed to respond promptly following a homelessness assessment, and she was also dissatisfied with how she was treated throughout the assessment. She stated that this caused her anxiety and continued distress.
She stated that LBC did not treat her with respect during the homelessness evaluation, and that there was no quick response following the assessment.
She further claimed that the council did not take any safeguarding action, and she had to follow up with LBC for updates.
“We may decide not to initiate or continue an investigation if we are satisfied with the actions that an organisation has taken or wants to take.
In response to her complaint, the council apologised for not providing her with a tailored housing plan in a timely manner.
“It made a symbolic £100 payment, transferred her case to a different council official, and provided additional training support to its personnel. These acts are appropriate.
The local authority’s solution is adequate, and further investigation would yield no more results. As a result, we will not examine this complaint,” stated the ombudsman’s findings.
“This is because the council has taken appropriate action already to prevent reoccurrence of that fault and offered the £100 payment as a remedy for injustice.”
