Council rubbishes ‘rumours’ asylum seekers to be housed at former Blackburn pub.

The owner just received planning approval for the conversion to a five-bedroom house.

A council has denied allegations that a former bar is ‘being contemplated or used to host asylum seekers’.

Blackburn with Darwen Council said they are ‘aware of rumours circulating’ about the future use of the old Gate Bar and Grill in Livesey Branch Road, Blackburn. They have now moved to correct the record, verifying that the home is privately held and is not being considered or utilised to shelter asylum seekers.

The building, previously known as The Moorgate pub until its closure in April 2023, has been the subject of speculation on social media and in the local community.

The council has just granted planning approval for the building to be transformed into a five-bedroom residential residence, and the owner intends to remodel the premises for use as a family home.

The full council statement read: “The council is aware of speculations circulating about the future use of the old public house located on Livesey Branch Road in Blackburn.

“We’d like to provide clear and accurate information confirming that the property is privately held. It is not being considered or used to host asylum seekers, as previously stated.”

The owner just received planning permission to convert to a five-bedroom house. It will be refurbished and used as a family house. “The premises, located near Ewood Park Stadium, were previously known as The Moorgate Pub until April 2023.
