Coventry City confirm an increase in the availability of home tickets with immediate effect

Coventry City’s official club account on the social media site X has revealed that the club will be able to boost their ticket allotment for home fans immediately, following talks with their local government.

This message was posted alongside a statement on the official club website that provided additional information.

Starting with their home Championship fixture against West Bromwich Albion on November 22, which has already been fiercely contested due to the high cost of away tickets, the home allocation will be boosted for supporters in Block 9 of the South Stand.

This is the outcome of obtaining permission to move the’segregation line’ that separates home and visiting spectators.

Neither the statement nor the tweet specify how many additional tickets will be available, but any increase will be welcome news for Coventry fans, as attendances have been approaching capacity as the club has risen to the top of the Championship table.

Coventry attendances have risen sharply since they returned to the CBS Arena in 2021

The CBS Arena has a formal capacity of 32,609, however due to segregation laws, the actual number of Coventry City fans who can watch the club play has been slightly lower.

Increasing the number of home fans has been an essential decision, as one of the unavoidable consequences of the club’s upward trend over the last several seasons has been an increase in the number of people wanting to see them play.

This season’s average attendance for Coventry home matches is 29,786, up nearly 2,000 from last season’s average of 27,812.

This figure continues an upward trend that began when fans were allowed back into matches after pandemic restrictions were eased in 2021.

The average home attendance during the club’s first season back following the return of supporters in 2021 was 19,541, representing a 52% increase over the previous five years. Prior to the 2020 pandemic, the stats were gloomy. Playing home games at Birmingham City’s St.
