Coventry Iceland plagued by hygiene issues set to be demolished.

Plans have been submitted to demolish the Iceland store in Coventry. After significant food hygiene hazards were uncovered, the Binley Road site may be rebuilt.

Officials believe that dismantling the Iceland building will enhance access to the adjoining Lidl. According to Coventry City Council, it will also make it possible to better configure the nearby 93-space parking complex.

Work is planned to begin in April 2026 and be completed in June. It entails clearing the Icelandic site and dismantling the structure.

CoventryLive understands that the present Lidl on Binley Road will be extended. Iceland was open at the time of writing. Hygiene concerns have plagued the Binley Road Iceland in recent months, as reported by CoventryLive.

Rats had infiltrated the building, and poisoned food was being sold. It had a one-star sanitary rating in June, but has now regained its top rating from the Food Standards Agency.

The reasons for the proposed demolition of Iceland have yet to be revealed.
