Coventry loss ‘just a glitch’ in promotion chase.
We asked you what you thought of Middlesbrough’s performance on Monday night, and whether it had cast any doubt on their promotion chances.
However, despite the setback to Coventry City, confidence seemed to be high.
Here is what you had to say:
Andrew: I believe this was just a malfunction. We have an excellent team, a superb manager, and a fantastic club owner.
I still believe we can get automatic promotion and have a great chance of finishing first! Guy: Boro’s next two games are at home against Oxford and Leicester City, while Coventry face West Bromwich Albion at noon on Saturday and Sheffield United on Wednesday.
Boro may be back in first place by 17:00 GMT on Saturday, and I fully anticipate them to be there when Coventry kicks out at Bramall Lane.
Having said that, the title is just gravy.Guarantee me second place, and I’ll drive the award to CBS myself. Alan: I thought Sol could have saved the first two goals.
It would have been a penalty at both ends. We still have our bogey team, but if we defeat Oxford and they don’t beat West Bromwich Albion, we will be back on top.
Paul: Middlesbrough appeared lazy and nervous in the first half. They were lucky to be only down 1-0!
They improved in the second half and could have drawn, but committed two schoolboy errors that deserved to be punished. Coventry fought hard, remained gritty, and played like the away team.
They were not particularly imaginative, though, and won the game because Middlesbrough gave it to them. Middlesbrough will need to be more combative in future games after being bullied and outmatched at times.
Paul: The statistics do not lie. Boro had 71.5% possession, double the number of shots on goal, and more than twice as many touches in the box as Coventry.
Still five points ahead of the playoff clubs, with two of the bottom three playing at home in the next few games. Keep the faith! Neil: Boro were bullied in the first half before conceding goals to Coventry in the second.
If they continue to believe in their ability to pass past teams, they will most likely win the Championship, but yesterday night may have taught others how to stop them.Still, I’d rather watch Boro’s passing football than Coventry’s 1980s retro approach.
