Crystal Palace explore loan move for Hwang Hee-chan

Before Matt Hobbs is expected to take over as Sporting Director, Crystal Palace is considering a loan transfer for Wolves forward Hwang Hee-chan.

Hobbs, who resigned as Wolves’ Sporting Director in June, will take over for Dougie Freedman, who left Palace earlier this year after eight years to join Al-Diriyah of Saudi Arabia.

Incoming Sporting Director Hobbs is considering the striker as a way to improve Palace’s front-row depth after acquiring Hee-chan on loan at Wolves in 2021 and committing to the move permanently in 2022.

Palace’s first-choice number nine is still Jean-Philippe Mateta, but Eddie Nketiah will be out for the next three months, leaving the team without adequate backup.

In the final two weeks of the transfer window, Mateta’s deputy, Odsonne Edouard, may be traded after a disastrous loan stint at relegated Leicester the previous season.

Edouard’s exit would be made easier with a Hee-chan move, as Palace looks to strengthen the team in preparation for their forthcoming European campaign.
