DERBY COUNTY CONFIRM THE SIGNING OF FORMER £25M LIVERPOOL STRIKER.
RHIAN BREWSTER COMPLETES DERBY COUNTY MOVE AFTER LIVERPOOL DEPARTURE.
Liverpool transfer news continues to make headlines, with a focus not only on new arrivals but also on the journeys of former players.
While Liverpool’s pursuit of Alexander Isak dominates the headlines, another transfer development has occurred in the Championship involving one of the club’s former academy players.
BREWSTER FINDS NEW CHAPTER AT DERBY COUNTY
Derby County have announced the signing of Rhian Brewster on a two-year contract following his release from Sheffield United. Before a £25 million move, the 25-year-old striker was regarded as one of Liverpool’s brightest youth prospects. He is now looking to relaunch his career at Pride Park under Paul Warne.
Brewster joined Liverpool from Chelsea’s academy in 2015 and quickly established himself, particularly through his outstanding performances on the international stage. He won the Golden Boot at the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup after scoring eight goals for England, raising hopes for his senior debut.
Despite being prolific at youth level and a member of the matchday squad that lifted the Champions League trophy in 2019, Brewster struggled to establish a regular first-team role at Liverpool.
His four senior appearances were all in domestic cup competitions, as fierce competition for positions limited opportunities.
Brewster’s move to Sheffield United was intended to provide him with regular Premier League football, but injuries proved otherwise. The striker suffered from a series of persistent hamstring issues, forcing him to spend significant time on the sidelines.
His debut Premier League season ended without a goal in 27 appearances, and subsequent seasons were similarly disrupted. These setbacks contributed to an underwhelming stint at Bramall Lane, which resulted in his release at the end of the 2024-25 season.
Brewster now has a new opportunity to rediscover his form and fitness in a competitive Championship setting.
BREWSTER’S REACTION TO DERBY COUNTY MOVE
Speaking to the club’s media team following the announcement, Brewster expressed his excitement for the next step in his career:
“I’m very happy and very delighted to join this great club,” he told me. “It’s been busy, but after speaking to all the boys and the manager and stuff like that, it was a no-brainer.” “I believe this is a significant opportunity for me, one that I had to seize with both hands.
Hopefully, I can demonstrate that this year.” “There’s so much more for me to do; I have a point to prove. I feel like I can always improve, no matter how old you are.” “There is always something to learn.
I believe that will happen here, with the manager, staff, and players supporting me along the way.”
LIVERPOOL LOAN STRATEGY CONTINUES
Aside from Liverpool transfer news, Arne Slot continues to oversee strategic player development.
Owen Beck has joined Derby County on a season-long loan after renewing his contract at Liverpool, while Isaac Mabaya has made a temporary move to League One club Wigan Athletic.
Both moves reflect Liverpool’s commitment to developing young talent through competitive minutes in the Football League, which is consistent with the club’s long-term squad-building strategy.
